Little League Senior Softball State Tournament - Gastineau Channel Little League hosts the Alaska State Senior Softball Tournament this weekend. It'll be a best-of-three series between two teams. Southeast Road Runners club - Mount Roberts Tram Run: Meet at 8:30 a.m. at the lower station of the Mount Roberts Tramway for a 9 a.m. race start. The course is about 3 miles, with a climb of about 1,800 feet on the Mount Roberts Trail. After running up the mountain, there are tram tickets to get back down. Southeast Road Runners club - Wes Coyner Memorial Duathlon: Meet at 8:30 a.m. at the False Outer Point Recreational Area parking lot for a 9 a.m. race start. Mendenhall Golf Course - Equipment sale and One Club Tournament: A used golf club and equipment sale will be held starting at 9 a.m. on Sunday, July 24, to benefit the junior golf program. LIFE On The Move Volleyball - Registration is still being accepted for the July 25th-28th camp for middle school students and the Aug. 1-2 camp for high school students. The middle school camp will take place from 1-4:30 p.m. each day at the Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School gym. The high school camp will take place from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 1-4 p.m. each day at the Dzantik'i Heeni gym. Alaska Department of Fish and Game hunter education course - This course takes place Tuesday through Thursday, July 26-28, and includes instruction on firearms safety and handling, wildlife conservation and management, game laws and regulation, hunter ethics and hunter responsibility. Successful graduates will be awarded a lifetime hunter education certification recognized throughout North America. This course is required to hunt in several Game Management Units throughout Alaska, especially for anyone age 16 or younger who wishes to hunt waterfoul on the Mendenhall Wetlands Game Refuge without adult supervision. It will take place at the Juneau Hunter Education Indoor Shooting Range adjacent to the Juneau Gun Club from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. each day. All persons interested must purchace at $10 packet of study materials at the Douglas office of ADF&G or at the JHEF. The workbook must be complete prior to the start of the course. Cheerleading conditioning - Meet from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday nights during July at Glacier Valley School. Conditioning will begin for all girls interested in tryout out to be a Crimson Bears JV or Varsity high school football cheerleader. Team tryouts will be in early August for the upcoming season.
Juneau Parks and Recreation adult volleyball registration - The Juneau Parks and Recreation team registration takes place at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, August 11, in the Assembly Chambers. Juneau box lacrosse practice - Meet from 6-9 p.m. on Wednesdays at Treadwell Arena in Douglas to learn about this version of lacrosse that is played inside a hockey rink. NHL greats Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux used to play box lacrosse in the summer and credit the game with sharpening their passing skills. The game is played on a concrete or artificial turf floor, and about 20 players are expected during each Wednesday's drop-in lacrosse session. Info: Jim Craig, 364-2393 (home) or 465-4236 (work).
Thunder Mountain sports camps - Thunder Mountain sports camps feature a positive and fun environment and coaching from local coaches, high school coach and college coaches from throughout the country. The wee soccer camp runs July 11-15 for $75, the regular soccer camp runs July 18-22 for $100, the advanced soccer camp runs July 25-29 for $100 and the baseball camp runs July 25-29 for $75. Kids sports camps - The JRC/Alaska Club is hosting kids sports camps in July and August, Monday through Friday. These all-day camps are taking place at the JRC/Alaska Club Valley location. Juneau Women's Golf League - The Juneau Women's Golf League is looking for experience and new players interested in playing golf. The league meets every Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Mendenhall Golf Course. There will be a shotgun start. Golf club rentals are available and cost is $9.45 per round, plus tax. Zach Gordon Youth Center climbing wall - Climbing wall hours are 5-7 p.m. on Mondays, and 3:30-7 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The climbing wall can be used by people of all ages. Climbers age 20-younger climb free, while adults 21-older pay $5 to use the wall. Youth-adult interaction is encouraged, so an adult climbing with a youth pays no fee. Evening masters swimming program - The Augustus Brown pool hosts a twice-weekly evening masters swimming program. The program will meet from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and is designed to promote and improve the physical and mental well-being of adults age 19-older. Juneau Archery Club youth shooting - Archery shooting is held on Friday nights, with sessions at 6 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Space is limited and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Basketball/volleyball court rentals available - The Juneau Community Schools program has basketball/volleyball court rental times available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School. Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation Wednesday and Saturday hikes - For updates on locations of Wednesday and Saturday group hikes, call the Juneau Parks and Recreation Hikes Hotline. Always remember to bring plenty of food and water, wear warm layers of clothing and proper footwear for the hike. No dogs or firearms are allowed. Wednesday hikes are limited to hikers 18 years of age or older. Saturday hikes are open to families, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
