Jesse Nelson pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts and one walk to lead Juneau East over Juneau West 6-1 in the opening game of the District 2 Majors (11-12) Little League Tournament in Craig Wednesday.

Nelson, who said his favorite pitch is a fastball, allowed just five hits in the win.

``My fastball's got good speed,'' said Nelson, who's been pitching about two years. ``And I can put it where I want it.''

Juneau East broke open a 1-1 game with Jeff Carpenter's two-run triple in the third inning. Juneau East tallied four runs in the inning, and added another in the fifth when Derek Listberger stole third then scored on a fielder's choice.

Juneau East won despite getting just four hits in the game.

``Juneau East was very aggressive on the base paths,'' Juneau East co-coach John Wray said.

Juneau East plays the winner of Wednesday's Ketchikan-Petersburg game at 2 p.m. today. Juneau West plays the loser at 11 a.m.

Other teams competing in the tournament are Prince of Wales, Sitka and Wrangell.
