Juneau resident Brian Robert Sanders died on July 18, 2007, at his home in Hoonah. He was 3.

He was born Aug. 1, 2003, the first day of hunting season. His nickname was "Little Buck," family members said. His Tlingit name was Kathul tinaa (Pounding Copper). He was of the Kaach Adi Clan from the Kutis' Hit. He was Chookaneidi Da Chxa'nk'.

He attended three different schools in Hoonah: Tlingit and Haida Head Start, Bromley Center and the PAT Center. During his time in school, he learned four languages: Tlingit, sign language, English and Spanish.

His family members said he was blessed and will be greatly missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Harlena Evanne Sanders; grandmother, Nina Marie Dick; grandfather, Henry Katasse Jr.; great-grandfather, Bill Wilson Sr.; great-grandmother, Elsie Wilson; grandfather, Allan Wilson, all of Hoonah; and Robert Hanson of Juneau.

He is survived by his mother, Elsie Sanders; father, Jeff Rucker; brother, David Sanders; sister, Nina Sanders; uncle, William Sanders; grandparents, Harlena and Steve Warford, and Larry Sanders Sr., all of Hoonah; godparents, Inez Patterson and Brian Roberts, both of Juneau; other grandparents, Starina Johnson, of Juneau, Barbara Katasse and Bill Wilson Jr., Harold Dick Sr., of Hoonah, and Emily and Michael Bezezekoff Sr., of Sitka; aunts, Edna Skaflestad, Darlene See, of Hoonah, Amelia Ruerup, of Fairbanks, Janice Bean, Emily Johnson, Evanne Katasse-Roberts and Christina Dick, of Juneau, and Cathy Bezezekoff, of Washington; uncles, Keith Skaflestad, Michael See, of Hoonah, Danny Ruerup, of Fairbanks, Brian Roberts and Harold Dick Jr., of Juneau, Steven Bezezekoff, of Sitka, and Michael Bezezekoff Jr., of Anchorage; and many other aunts, uncles and cousins throughout Southeast Alaska.
