ANCHORAGE - Searchers have found the body of an Anchorage teenager who tumbled off an embankment into a river whirlpool.
Trooper spokeswoman Beth Ipsen says the body of 18-year-old Keith T. Reed was found just after 6 p.m. Sunday in a remote area of the Talkeetna Mountains northwest of the Eureka airstrip.
Troopers say Reed was hiking with two friends from Wasilla - 22-year-old Jeremiah Crawford and 20-year-old Tyler Duncan - Saturday night when he fell into the Little Oshetna River and was sucked into a whirlpool at the base of a waterfall.
Reed's friends jumped in to save him, but couldn't find him.
One of the would-be rescuers told troopers the force of the churning water was so strong it kept spitting him out and pinned him to the side of the cliff at one point.
