Helfinstines celebrate 25th

Posted: Wednesday, July 21, 2004

James and Laurie Helfinstine of Juneau will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary today. In 1979, they were married in the original Chapel-by-the-Lake, overlooking Auke Bay. They spent their honeymoon in Sitka.

Jim moved to Alaska in 1976 after serving in the U.S. Marine Corps and met his bride-to-be on her birthday. They have two daughters, Brynn and LaTina, both of Juneau.

Laurie is the great-granddaughter of John Spaulding and great-great-granddaughter of "Wes" Wadelich. Wadelich Creek and Spaulding Trail of Auke Bay were named after these pioneers. Wes was the founder and first president of the Pioneers of Alaska.

Jim and Laurie are federal and state employees.
