"The Bad News Bears," (PG-13) *1/2

Synopsis: A drunken loser who had a moment in the big leagues leads a team of misfits. Remake isn't as funny, sweet or innocent as original.

Synopsis: John and Jane Smith (Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie) are an "ordinary" couple who happen to be assassins working for competing organizations.

Synopsis: "Begins" tells the story of how Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) became the vigilante super hero. A stylish, character-driven, comic book movie.

"Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," (PG) ***

Synopsis: A reclusive chocolate maker gives four odious brats and one goodhearted kid a tour of his factory. A winning remake.

Synopsis: Four astronauts journey to the center of a cosmic storm only to have their DNA irrevocably altered. Unfunny attempt at a silly, jokey superhero movie.

"Mad Hot Ballroom," (PG) ***1/2

Synopsis: Endearing documentary aboutfifth-graders who take ballroom dancing. Culminates in a citywide competition to pick the surest-footed school.

"War of the Worlds," (PG-13) ***

Synopsis: A deadbeat dad and his two kids attempt to escape destruction as aliens invade the earth. A scary thrill ride from Steven Spielberg.
