Things to think about this election season

Letter to editor

This election season, I hope voters in Juneau will think about what is important to their families and their neighbors - things such as equality for all Alaskans, affordable housing, health care, reliable transportation, safe streets and schools, education and taking care of those less fortunate than ourselves.

Sound off on the important issues at

One of the most important things to me is that eligible people register to vote and then vote. You can register to vote and vote through the mail absentee if you want to. You don't have to drive anywhere, show up a certain time or rearrange your schedule. It can't get any easier to participate in democracy. For more information, you can check out the Division of Elections Web site. If you are interested in voting in the Aug. 22 statewide primary election (for the governor of Alaska) you need to register by this Sunday, July 23. If you have questions, please call the Division of Elections at 465-3021.

If you want government officials to respond to your needs then it is up to you to let them know through the voting process what is important to you.
