Diaz, Haugland to host two-day salsa workshop
JUNEAU - Antonio Diaz and Heather Haugland will host a salsa workshop on Friday and Saturday, July 23-24, at the VFW Hall, on Gastineau Avenue behind the Baranof Hotel.
The classes will be: Beginning Salsa, 7-8:30 p.m. Friday; Salsa, Cha Cha and Merengue, 4-5:30 p.m. Saturday; more Salsa, 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday; and a free practice session and dance, 9-11 p.m. Saturday.
Cost is $10 per person ($8 for students) per class or $25 for all three classes ($20 for students).

Summer JUMP festival to show July 24, 30
JUNEAU - The Juneau Underground Motion Picture (JUMP) Society will hold its summer festival at 7 and 9 p.m. Saturday, July 24, and Friday, July 30, in the Silverbow's Back Room.
Admission is still free, but you can now reserve a seat in advance. Tickets are available at the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council office, 206 N. Franklin St., or at Lucid Reverie headquarters, in the Emporium Mall on Franklin Street, near the Goldtown Nickelodeon and Heritage Coffee.
The festival screenings usually fill up to standing-room only at least 20 minutes before show time, and space is at a premium inside the venue.
At press time, no information was available on this festival's slate of films.

State museum wants visual-artist applications
JUNEAU - The Alaska State Museum is soliciting applications from Alaska visual artists for solo exhibitions during the 2005-06 season.
Applications are due Oct. 8, and winners will be announced Oct. 15.
Submission guidelines and an application are available online at www.museums.state.ak.us. Interested artists should submit 10 high-quality slides with examples of their art. No original art will be accepted for review purposes. Artists also should submit a proposal detailing the type of work proposed to be included in the exhibition.
A selection committee will review the applications.
