GCLL with 2 teams at softball state tourneys

The Gastineau Channel Little League will have two All Star softball teams compete for state championships this month in Anchorage.

The Major All Star team started play today in the Alaska State Little League Major Softball Tournament at Abbot-O-Rabbit Little League in Anchorage against District 1 champions Dimond-West Little League.

Dimond-West won Game 1 15-5. Game 2 takes place at 3 p.m. today.

The best-of-three tournament will determine the state champions.

The winner will move on to West Region Little League Tournament in Vancouver, Wash., on July 28 through August 5. The West Region champions will then play in the Little League Softball World Series in Portland, Ore.

Starting on July 26, the Juneau Junior Softball All Star team will head to Anchorage for the Alaska State Junior Softball Tournament.

The team will compete against the to-be-determined District 1 champions for the title at Dimond-West Little League fields.

The state champions will then play for the West Region Little League Junior Softball title in Tucson, Ariz., from Aug. 2-8. The Junior League Softball World Series will take place in Kirkland, Wash., starting on Aug. 12.

Both Juneau softball teams automatically won their respective District 1 championships.
