A Juneau woman was arrested Tuesday night in Haines on drug charges.

Letia Callaghan, 19, was arrested by police with guns drawn about 7 p.m. as she and her partner, a Seattle boy, 16, waited in their Oldsmobile to drive onto the southbound Malaspina ferry, said Chief Greg Goodman of the Haines Police Department.

``These are the first narcotics arrests of this size that we have made in some time,'' Goodman said.

Arresting officers seized ten baggies of cocaine, each holding 0.8 grams. Each baggie has a street value of about $160, Goodman said. Police also seized several 5-ounce baggies of marijuana.

``We suspect they came into town with more than we caught them with'' at the ferry terminal, Goodman said. Cash in the amount of $2,700 was also seized by Haines police.

Callaghan was charged with one count of third-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance for dealing cocaine and one count of fourth-degree misconduct involving marijuana. She was lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center on Thursday on $50,000 bond.

The pair had been allegedly dealing cocaine and marijuana in Haines for over a week, Goodman said. A concerned citizen tipped off police the pair was operating out of a local motel.

The police were advised by the district attorney's office to handle the case themselves. Officer James Hammons conducted the investigation, put the search warrant together and made the arrests, Goodman said Friday. Goodman escorted Callaghan to the state prison. The Seattle boy, who was not identified by police because of his age, was lodged at Johnson Youth Center, Goodman said. He was also charged with two counts of misconduct involving a controlled substance.
