Move south if you want a road

Posted: Sunday, July 23, 2006

I have lived in Juneau for more than half a century and have survived just fine without a road out of town.

Sound off on the important issues at

Keep in mind that when and if the road does get built, you still won't have a road "out of here." Instead of driving the 13 miles we do now to the ferry terminal, you will be driving 58 miles to the ferry terminal. Does this make any sense? And what the heck will the foot passengers do, pay an expensive shuttle bus or taxi fee?

The road means cutting hundreds of trees, disturbing the peace and sanctity of the land, destroying habitat and leaving an ugly scar in our pristine wilderness. What a waste - just so people can get into their cars and drive to another ferry terminal. Please move south if you want roads.
