USS Juneau to visit Alaska namesake

JUNEAU - The USS Juneau will visit its Alaska namesake city to honor the state's 50th anniversary of statehood.

A spokeswoman for the Navy said the cruiser and its crew of 420 will be in Juneau from Saturday until Wednesday.

The vessel is stopping in Juneau on its way from Japan to San Diego, where it's scheduled to be deactivated.

Public tours are planned Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
