So the Bering Sea crab population has crashed.
After seven years of high-tech, unregulated fishing pressure by a huge fleet (with 250 boats admittedly in excess), we now face a $100 million buyout in tax dollars. Where were the regulating agencies that sat idly by and watched this happen?
It's unnerving to know that this same agency is supposedly protecting other resources. It used to be that natural resources belonged to everyone, not just to special interest groups.
Whatever happened to that concept?
