Posted: Wednesday, July 24, 2002

Mercedes Metcalf the daughter of Rob and Marianne Metcalf, submitted a poem to a contest that was held for young poets earlier this year. Her poem was selected from thousands of entries as one of the top 10 in her grade division.

Mercedes Metcalf is in seventh grade at Thunder Mountain Academy. The contest was held for all students in grades 4-12. The top 10 poets in each grade division (grades 4-6; 7-9; 10-12) are each being recognized by receiving special recognition in the poetry anthology "A Celebration of Young Poets," by receiving a complimentary copy of the anthology and a $50 savings bond. Poems are selected for their literary merit, creativity, and social significance.

To enter the next contest, send one original poem with the poet's name, grade, home address, school name and address to: Creative Communications, 90 North 100 East, Logan, UT, 84321. Or enter on line at www.poeticpower.com. The deadline is Dec. 5.
