Our Internet interests need to be protected

Your July 16 report on the ridicule Sen. Stevens is enduring because of his inarticulate description of the Internet calls attention to the real problem with Sen. Stevens - his failure to defend the average Alaskan's access to the Internet.

Sound off on the important issues at

Both of our senators would be well advised to support the Snowe-Dorgan Net Neutrality bill currently in the Senate, rather than supporting corporate giants like AT&T, Comcast and Verizon, who want more control over what we see and do online.

As a regular user of the Internet, I don't want my access controlled by corporations who are more interested in their bottom lines than in my interests. There was a day in America when corporations were smaller and more concerned about civic responsibility. We could trust them to do what's right. Sadly, today's corporations are governed by Wall Street and greed more than by civic duty.

Can we count on Sen. Stevens and Sen. Murkowski to represent us or just the high-powered corporations? Only through their votes can they answer that question.
