After 11 days in front of store, Harry Potter fans finally have book

Sisters say they're not in any hurry to finish reading

FAIRBANKS - They waited in line 11 days to get "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," and now that they have it, two Alaska sisters are in no rush to finish.

Sound off on the important issues at

"It starts off a little slow," Chloe Bostian, 18, said late Sunday. "But she (author J.K. Rowling) had to tie up some loose ends. I can't wait to finish it.

"Everything seems to be happening fast. Usually the climax is at the end of the book, but this one has more of Shakespearean plot line with little climaxes everywhere."

She's read about half the 759-page final installment in the Harry Potter series, which went on sale at 12:01 a.m. July 21. She's a little farther along than her 11-year-old sister, Sydney.

"I didn't think it would go in the direction it did," said Chloe of what she's read so far. "At first, (the series) was more for children, but now it's getting more adult and sinister."

The sisters started camping out July 10 in front of Gulliver's Books in Fairbanks, living out of their parent's camper, parked in the bookstore's parking lot. To help pass time, they browsed the bookstore, watched Harry Potter movies on a laptop and played trivia. Friends brought food so they wouldn't need to leave the line. Their parents took turns in line.

The girls said three or more radio stations from the Lower 48 would call at all hours every day asking about their wait after they were quoted in an Associated Press story that ran a week before the book came out.

One station asked Chloe to make up a Harry Potter quiz for a giveaway contest on the station's morning show. She was a little put off because it was 1:30 a.m. locally, so "I made the questions really hard," she laughed.
