Former Juneau resident Leona Marilyn DeSmet, 82, died July 18, 2006, in Santa Clara, Calif.

Born on Aug. 13, 1923, she was a housewife and secretary for the Santa Clara University Welfare Department for many years, until her retirement.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Mager, of Saratoga, Calif., Mary DeSmet and her husband, Greg Burger, of Juneau, Lisa Gray and her husband, Ken, of Mt. Vernon, Wash., and Cecile Sharp and her husband, Terry, of Gilbert, Ariz.; sons, John DeSmet and his wife, Mary, of Roseburg, Ore., Jeffrey DeSmet and his wife, Margene, of Juneau, Michael DeSmet and his wife, Nanette, of Morgan Hill, Calif., and Paul DeSmet and his wife, Shari, of Felton, Calif.; grandsons formerly of Juneau, Clancy DeSmet, of South Royalton, Vt., Ryan DeSmet, of Nevada City, Calif., and eight other grandchildren; one great grandchild; many nieces and nephews, including Kathleen Hanna and her husband, Tom, and Theresa Walden and her husband, Jim, of Juneau.
Private services are to held in Juneau.
