The Crescendo Fund Scholarship is available to young string players of school age who are too young for other scholarships, or who are not at the age to be receiving the "audition-based" scholarships the teens apply for. This is designed to help kids attend institutes, apply towards a needed instrument, or pay for other essential music study expenses. Last year, HeartStrings raised $1,000 and scholarshipped seven children. Juneau Arts and Humanities Council stewards the scholarship fund. Saturday's presentation was the first of this year's efforts to raise money for the fund. Contact Lisa Miles at 957-0699 if you would like to sponsor a child's practice to raise money for the scholarship.
