Faith Lutheran Church will celebrate the installation of Rev. Michael Steckel as pastor at a special evening service on Jul 25th.
The service will begin at 5 p.m. followed by a potluck reception at 6:30 p.m. All friends of Faith Lutheran Church are invited to the service and potluck to help celebrate this special occasion.
LCMS - Northwest District President, Rev. Paul Linneman from Portland, Ore. and Circuit Counselor Rev. Steve Heinsen from Chugiak will officiate the installation service.
Rev. Steckel and his family arrived in Juneau in July, 2009 from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Mo., where he served out his vicarage assignment. After completing his vicarage, Rev. Steckel was ordained at his home church in Fairbanks June 20th.
The Faith Lutheran Church is located at 2500 Sunset Dr.
Kids coming into any of the three public libraries this summer may enter a weekly drawing for prizes donated by local businesses. They may enter the drawing by writing a book review on forms available at the library or online at www.juneau.org/library. This is open to all ages through teens. The library staff said it is thankful to local businesses for their generous support.
Margot Oliver, age 6, won a gift certificate from Rainy Retreat Books for reading "Blue Goose" by Nancy Tafuri. "Everything was white and they had to make it colorful," she said. "This book would be good for a kid that likes to paint."
Liam Porter-Bell, age 13, won a gift certificate from the Alaskan Fudge Co. for reading "The Alchemyst: The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel" by Michael Scott. "I liked this book because it has a great story and great characters and I really want to read the sequel," he said.
Adeline Prussing, age 8, won a gift certificate from Heritage Coffee Co. for reading "The Rough-Face Girl" by Rafe Martin. "I like the book because she got to marry the invisible," she said.
Natalie Zimmerman, age 8, won a gift certificate to Peer Amid Beads for reading "Nate the Great" by Marjorie Weinman Sharmat. She said she liked the book "because Nate The Great is at the beach with Mudge, his faithful dog, when he learns that Oliver's beach bag has disappeared!"
Dominick Johnson, age 6, won a gift certificate to the Amazing Bookstore in the Airport Mall for reading "Puppy Mudge Wants to Play" by Cynthia Rylant. "I could read it myself," he said.
Max Blust, age 13, won a gift certificate to Nugget Alaskan Outfitter for reading "The Maze Runner" by James Dashner. "It was a fast moving plot and it was very exciting," he said. "I did not like the ending, but it was still a good book."
