Juneau residents Charles and Marlene Schneider were married 50 years ago on Aug. 5, 1960.
The couple were introduced by Marlene's mother, Mable Davis, in Juneau. At that time, Charlie was working for Green Construction Co. extending the road from the Shrine of St. Therese to Eagle River. Marlene was working for the State of Alaska, at the Department of Health and Welfare.
When planning their August wedding, they were careful to choose a date that did not conflict with the Golden North Salmon Derby. They married one week before the derby at the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
They have five children: Deb Lanigan, of Fairbanks, Denise Pollock, of Bend, Ore., Celeste Brady, of Portland, Ore., and CJ Schneider II and Josette Duran, of Juneau. They feel blessed to have wonderful sons-in-law and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The Schneiders will renew their vows at the same church where they married at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, with a reception to follow at the Parish Hall next door. Friends and family of the Schneiders are invited to attend. Cars may be parked at both lots across the street. Please RSVP to email@example.com or (541) 410-4886 by Monday, August 2.
