Juneau 24, Sitka 11

The Juneau Majors All-Star team earned a state tournament berth Friday with a 24-11 win over homestanding Sitka in the District 2 tournament.

Chase Barnum got the start on the mound, with Grant Ainsworth providing middle relief and Jared Markovich closing it out.

Sitka took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, but Juneau answered with an 11-run explosion in the second.

Barnum hit a three-run homer to right-center, and Markovich added a three-run shot to straightaway center in the third.

Kaleb Tompkins also went yard in the third with a two-run jack to center. Markovich added a second three-run homer to left in the fourth.

The state tournament is in Anchorage this year.

Juneau 6, Sitka 3

Juneau knocked off Sitka 6-3 on Wednesday behind a two-run homer over the centerfield fence by Jared Markovich in the bottom of the first inning.

Alex Muir drove in two runs with a single, and Matt Cunningham, Brendan Peitz, Kaleb Tompkins, Markovich and Jake Tanner pitched Juneau into Friday's championship game.

Markovich struck out five in 5 2-3 innings. Juneau finished with six hits.

Juneau 7, Ketchikan 1

Juneau defeated Ketchikan 7-1 on Tuesday with Alex Muir recording a two-RBI double.

Chase Barnum, Grant Ainsworth, Shane Melkie and Jared Markovich each saw time on the mound.
