In season: Salt and freshwater king salmon (peaks May-July), halibut and rockfish (peaks June-Sept.), sockeye, pink and chum salmon (runs June to Sept., peaks in July), coho salmon (June-Nov.), freshwater brook trout (peaks Aug.-Sept.), Dolly Varden (June-Aug.), bear viewing at Pack Creek (June-Sept.), freshwater Northern Pike (peaks July-Aug.), deer (Aug.-Dec.), mountain goat (Aug.-Dec.), wolf (Aug.-April), grouse and ptarmigan (Aug.-May).

Short notice hikes: The Alpine Club has several hikes planned to take place on short notice when the conditions are favorable. Call the hike leader to be included on any of these. A 20-mile, high intensity climb up Stroller White sometime in July or August, let by Bill Forrest, 789-3008. A 21-mile, high intensity, overnight trip up Mt. Wrather sometime in July or August, led by Bill Forrest, 789-3008. An all-day, high intensity climb of Berners Mountain, led by Gerry Landry, 789-7058. A half-day, medium intensity hike up Mt. Meek led by Kathy Landry, 789-7058.

July 26: Trail Mix monthly meeting at 7 p.m. at the Mendenhall Mall Library. Call 790-6406.

July 28-29: NADAC dog agility trial starting at 9 a.m. at Dimond Park. Call Capital Kennel Club of Juneau at 789-3239.

July 28: The Saturday hike usually meets at 9:30 a.m. No dogs or firearms please. Call 586-0428.

July 28: Kids Day program at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center covered viewing area from 11 a.m. to noon. Children under 7 should bring an adult. For more call 789-6640.

July 29: Public trap shoot at 10 a.m. every Sunday at the Juneau Gun Club. Call 789-9844.
