Council on the Arts is accepting Governor's Award nominations

The Alaska State Council on the Arts is now accepting nominations for the 2006 Governor's Awards for the Arts and Humanities.

Deadline is Aug. 15. Arts award nominations forms are available at www.eed.state.ak.us/aksca or by calling (800) 278-7424. Humanities award nomination forms are available at www.akhf.org or by calling the Alaska Humanities Forum at (907) 272-5341.

Awards will be presented by the Governor and First Lady on Oct. 27 at a dinner ceremony in Anchorage.

Juneau Student Symphonies hold season auditions Aug. 1

The Juneau Student Symphonies is taking appointments for auditions for musicians of all ages who play flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, French horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, percussion, keyboard or piano, harp, violin, viola, cello or bass.

Auditions begin on Aug. 1 and can be scheduled by calling conductor, Rick Trostel at 586-1915. All musicians interested in playing must contact Rick; although only those who are new to the orchestras or who are Student Sinfonia musicians trying out for the Student Symphony need to audition.

The Juneau Student Symphonies' next concert is at noon at the State Office Building atrium and at 7 p.m. at Marine Park on Aug. 18.
