We are Juneau People Power Project. We formed initially to oppose the 500-percent rate increase resulting from the 2008 avalanche. We became concerned when Alaska Electric Light & Power's recent interim and permanent rate increases were proposed. We encourage those who were not already doing so to contact the RCA with their objections, and we would like to commend all of the citizens who called or wrote RCA with their objections.
We also think those who attended the pre-hearing and let their voices be heard deserve a standing round of applause.
AEL&P was granted the interim increase, so there is more to be done.
It appears to me that the best course of action would be to take whatever legal means available to oppose this rate increase as it jeopardizes our financial security. I find it sad that people living in this great nation have to be in opposition to each other for their survival when many of us are struggling just to make ends meet.
Come to our public forum if you want to oppose this rate increase. We welcome questions and comments and also input from people with education in legal areas, website development, utility regulations, etc.
AEL&P is a privately owned monopoly and it appears their attitude is "we have the supply, so we demand whatever we want.
The meeting will be held Saturday at the downtown library conference room. You can also contact me at 333vah777@gmail.com for more information.
What makes cents for AEL&P, does not make sense to us - the ratepayers.
