TACOMA, Wash. - Tacoma police have made an arrest in the death of a woman killed by a stray bullet.

Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum says detectives arrested a suspect Saturday night, booking him into Pierce County jail on suspicion of second-degree murder.

Police didn't release many details, but they say the suspect arrested is believed to have been involved in the fight that triggered the drive-by shooting.

Lisa Marie Melancon, 40, died instantly late Thursday after being hit by a stray bullet fired from a car. Police said she and her husband, Joe Melancon, had stepped outside their home after a neighbor asked them to help break up a fight.

Investigators say the fight apparently broke out after two groups of young people exchanged derogatory text messages. One of the groups left in a car, with someone firing blindly out the window. Melancon died instantly when a bullet struck her in the head.
