Sitka defeats Juneau East for major baseball championship in wet and wild shootout

Host Sitka completed an undefeated run through the Alaska Little League District 2 Major Baseball Tournament by winning the title Tuesday in Sitka.

Sitka defeated a game Juneau East squad 23-10 in rainy conditions.

Juneau East claimed an early lead before Sitka came back in the third to take back the lead for good.

Sitka will host the state championship for 11-and-12 year olds. The winner moves on to the regional tournament, with that winner playing in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Penn., on ESPN.

In other Little League tournaments, Nunaka Valley defeated Juneau 6-3 Monday to win the Alaska Little League Major Softball state championship in Anchorage.

Nunaka Valley won the title by winning the best-of-three series 2-1.

Also on Monday, Dimond West completed its sweep of Juneau by winning 14-4 to claim the junior baseball state title.
