Commission was right to reject road

Letter to the editor

I support the Juneau Planning Commission's recent action rejecting the Department of Transportation's proposal to extend "The Road" across Berners Bay wetlands. That proposal would destroy or degrade productive wetlands that could not be replicated at an alternative location.

Sound off on the important issues at

The road extension across Berners Bay's wetlands is not in the best interest of Southeast Alaska. We have an excellent Juneau-access ferry system that is safe and convenient, has no significant environmental costs and is less expensive in the long run.

Please support protection of Berners Bay's irreplaceable productive ecosystem.
