Norway Cup is next for youth soccer team

After dropping their first three games, the Juneau Soccer Club Reign rallied to win two matches Thursday at the Dana Cup in Hjorring, Denmark.

Joey Croteau broke a scoreless first half by scoring a second-half hat trick to lead the Reign to a 3-0 over Sweden's Ostra Torp GIF.

The Under-16 boys team then defeated Norway's Bamble IF 2-1 to qualify for today's consolation semifinal match against Norway's Flatas IL.

The Reign dropped their first game on Wednesday, falling 2-1 to Eidsvold Turn from Norway. Sam Greeley scored the Reign's lone goal off an assist from Croteau.

The Dana Cup features more than 800 youth soccer teams from throughout the world.

The Under-16 boys team finished preliminary play 0-3. The team took on two teams from Norway and a host squad from Hjorring.

Juneau fell to Hjorring 6-0 and Gneist from Norway 6-0.

Following Friday's game, the Reign will travel to Oslo for the 34th annual Norway Cup. According to the tournament's Web site, the Norway Cup features 1,500 youth soccer teams from throughout the world.
