The Alaska Marine Ferry System's Taku diverted from its planned route Saturday to ferry two water trucks, with about 5,000 gallons of water each, to Kake.
Kake's water supply has been undermined by the failure of the town's reservoir.
The diversion caused the Taku to fall 12 hours behind schedule, and the ship will be running late until a planned departure from Juneau on Wednesday. It started its run from Ketchikan to Juneau behind schedule today -- at about 8:15 a.m.
The revised schedule is posted on the ferry system's Web site, available via Hot Links on juneauempire.com.
On its way to Juneau, the Taku will stop in Wrangell, Petersburg, Sitka and Hoonah.
