Help on being a nurse offered

Weber State University nursing education representatives will hold informational meetings from 9 to noon at the Marine Technology Center on Aug. 9. The meetings will provide information for students interested in attaining a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse qualification while residing in Juneau.

Glacier ice focus of presentation

Forest Service Naturalists Mary Knetter and Jessie Schalkowski will present ``Awesome Ice'' at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center from 11 a.m. to noon Aug. 12. Kids will discuss how glacier ice is formed, gather ice from the lake and use it to make homemade ice cream. Children ages 7-12 are welcome; children under 7 must have adult supervision. Rain gear and rubber boots are recommended.

Youth court plans learning seminar

Juneau Youth Court will hold an education seminar for youth in grades 8 through 12 at Juneau-Douglas High School, Aug. 14-18. The seminar will meet Aug. 14-16 from 1-5 p.m. and Aug. 17-18 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Students will learn the basics of the American legal and justice systems and will be able to represent their peers in a youth court setting.
