UPCOMING EVENTS

Aug. 3

• JDHS tennis and TMHS intramural tennis - The JDHS tennis team and the TMHS intramural tennis team will begin practice on Aug. 3. All interested students shoudl go to the JRC/TAC tennis courts at 11 a.m. Physicals are required to practice. Contact Amy Skillbred at 780-4649 for moreinformation.

• TMHS cross country - Practice begins from 5-6 p.m. The team will meet at the front entrance of TMHS. Practice will be held five days a week, and participants must have a current-year physical. Contact Scott May at790-4544 for more information.

Aug. 6

• Juneau Parks & Recreation men's and women's volleyball sign-ups - Team registration will be held Thursday, Aug. 6, at 5:15 p.m. in the Juneau Assembly Chambers in the Municipal Building. Late registration will be Friday, Aug. 7, at the Parks & Rec office. League play begins Aug. 31. Team manager packets are available at the Parks & Rec office, located on the second floor of the Municipal Building, room 218. Aug. 15

Hunter information and bowhunter training - The Alaska Department of Fish and Game is offering a bowhunter training course at the Juneau Hunter Education Facility at 5670 Montana Creek Rd. on Aug. 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $10. Course registration requires the purchase of an independent study packet at the Douglas office of the ADF&G, room 201 (465-4265), or the JHEF (596-4101). The study modules must be completed prior to the start of the course and brought to the class.

Aug. 21-22

Hunter information and basic firearm training - The Alaska Department of Fish and Game is offering a hunter information and basic firearm training course at the Juneau Hunter Education Facility at 5670 Montana Creek Rd. on Aug. 21 and 22. The Aug. 21 class lasts from 6-9 p.m., and the Aug. 22 class is from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $10. ONGOING

• JDHS volleyball open gym - Mondays and Fridays, July 13-Aug. 7, at the JDHS auxiliary gym from 6-8 p.m.

• Juneau Parks & Recreation flag football registration. Every Saturday at 4 p.m. at the turf field near JDHS. Youths of all ages are welcome, and registration is free. Call 586-2635after 11 a.m. for more information.

• The Juneau Youth Football League is looking for volunteers for a variety of tasks: fundraising, field photographer, webmaster and more. If you can spare a little time and would like to help out the kids, call Scott Jensen at 209-4644.

• Juneau Sports Association Masters Softball League - The deadline for sign-ups is Aug. 7 for the 2009 Master's League, which is for coed league for men and women 40-years-old and over, runs from Aug. 11-Sept. 15. This is a 12-game, six-week season based on USA Sr. Softball rules, which differ slightly from traditional play. Team regisitration is $225, and all players must be current members of JSA. If you don't have a team but are interested in playing, JSA will collect names and additional teams can be formed, or you will be placed on an existing team. • TMHS Cheerleader Babysitting Club - The Thunder Mountain cheerleaders are offering a babysitting service throughout the school year. Red Cross/CPR-trained cheerleaders will work for you in pairs for your babysitting needs. Please call coach Victoria Scharen at 209-1878 for details and to schedule your babysitters.
