Reading kids win
Businesses in Juneau are rewarding kids for reading. Every time a child 18 or younger borrows materials from any of the three public libraries, he or she may enter a drawing for a prize. This week's winners are:
Kelsey Martin - 2 passes from the Juneau Trolley Car Co.
Molly Nelson - Nalgene bottle and key chain from Nugget Outfitters.
Holly White - large pizza from Domino's.
Patricia Adams - book and gift certificate from the Friends of the Library Amazing Book Store.
Vaccine recommended for Alaska Native kids
Alaska Native children are about four times as likely as all other American children their age to get invasive pneumococcal diseases, such as pneumonia, bloodstream infections and the potentially fatal meningitis. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Meningitis Foundation of America suggest that Prevnar should be considered for all Alaska Native children up to age 5.
