Tour of Juneau

• Friday Aug. 4, 2006. 6:30PM - Tour of Juneau, Blueberry Hill Hillclimb. Start is on Sitka Street (near Douglas Round about). Cost is $10 for licensed riders, or $25 for all three Tour events. Additional $10 for day license if unlicensed. For more info contact Joe Sorenson at 790-2252

• Saturday Aug. 5, 2006 1:00 PM - Tour of Juneau 40K Time Trial. Start is at the Kowee Creek Bridge on Douglas Island. Cost is $10 for licensed riders, or $25 for all three Tour events. Additional $10 for day license if unlicensed. For more info contact Joe Sorenson at 790-2252

• Sunday Aug. 6, 2006 10:00 AM - Tour of Juneau Auk Rec Circuit Race. Start is in the Auk Bay Recreation area near the Totem Pole. Cost is $10 for licensed riders, or $25 for all three Tour events. Additional $10 for day license if unlicensed. For more info contact Joe Sorenson at 790-2252

Saturday, Aug. 5

• Frank Maier Marathon and Douglas Island Half-Marathon - The 15th annual Frank Maier Memorial Marathon and Douglas Island Half Marathon will take place Saturday. The marathon starts at 7 a.m. while the half-marathon starts at 9 a.m. There are earlier start time available for slower runnrs. Cost is $30 for the marathon or $15 for the half-marathon. Aug. 8-15

• Chilkoot Trail Hike - SAGA's Eagle Valley Center will be leading a hike of the historic gold rush trail of 1898 for youth and teens ages 14-16. The cost is $395 per person and includes meals, supervision, trail permits, ferry north and south, shuttle to trailhead, White Pass and Yukon Route train rides. Info: 789-7035



• Co-ed Master's Soccer League - The Co-Ed Master's Soccer League is for experienced men and women soccer players over the age of 30. There will be no formal teams and no referees. Field time is for 1 to 1 1/2 hours. There will be an outdoor training session starting on Aug. 27. Games will be played Sundays at the Adair-Kennedy Memorial park. Cost is $20. • Alaska Wrestling Camp of Champions - The Juneau Youth Wrestling Club is sponsoring the Alaskan Camp of Champions with Ken Ramsey, Jr., head coach at Embry-Riddle University at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School on Aug. 3-5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.. Ramsey was an assistant coach at Ohio State for 11 years, coached more than 20 All-Americans and helped the team rank fifth in all-time wins and earn the most takedowns in a single season. Camp will focus on toss, turn and pin, intensive technique and competition and intensive leg attacks and takedowns. Wrestlers in grades 6-12 are welcome to attend. Cost is $20. Please bring a sack lunch. Wrestlers younger than grade 6 must have an adult accompany them for all the sessions. Info: Lee Kadinger, 723-2879,

• JDHS swimming and diving meeting - There will be a mandatory meeting for all high school students interested in joining the JDHS swimming and diving team on Monday, Aug. 7, at 2 p.m. All students should meet at the front door of the JDHS commons at 2 p.m. Swim practice is at 3 p.m. on that Monday while diving practice will be at 7 p.m. Swimmers should bring dry land and swim workout clothes and a completed physical screening form. • Juneau Parks and Recreation volleybal packets available - Juneau Parks and Recreation men's and women's volleyball team manager packets are available at the Parks and Recreation office, located on the second floor of the municipal building, Room 218. Team registration will be conducted on Thursday, Aug. 10, at 5:15 p.m. in the assembly chambers. Late registration will be taken Friday, Aug. 11, at the Parks and Recreation office. • JDHS tennis team practice - The Juneau-Douglas High School tennis team will begin practice on Aug. 1, 10 a.m. to noon at JRC/The Alaska Club valley location. Attending each practice is important to be considered for travel to the Fairbanks Invitational on Aug. 25. JRC/The Alaska Club membership is not required, however, a sports physical is required. • JDHS cross country practice - The Juneau-Douglas High School cross country team will begin practice on July 31. Practices are 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. on Saturdays. A current physical is needed to practice. Info: Guy Thibodeau, 463-8442, or Merry Ellefson, 586-1692

• Ultimate Frisbee pickup games - On Sundays in August from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., there will be ultimate frisbee pickup games at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park. Beginners are welcome. Info: Cody Bennett, 790-2639,, or Mona Yarnall, 789-0263,

• Football officials needed - The Juneau-Douglas Officials Association is looking for individuals to be football officials. Officiating is a great way to not just watch the games, but to become an active participant in them. Officials are responsible for both Juneau Youth Football Association games and the Juneau-Douglas High School games. The first meeting for the year is at 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 19, at the large conference room in the downtown library. Info: Juneau-Douglas Officials Association, 789-3852.
