Sgt. Noli Bata, of Juneau, recites the Pledge of Allegiance after becoming a U.S. citizen on July 29, while stationed in Kuwait. Batac has been deployed for more than a year with the Alaska Army National Guard's 3rd Battalion, 297th Infantry. His next step in the naturalization process is to bring his wife and two children to the United States from the Philippines, where he was born. As a civilian, Batac works for R&M Engineering as a soil engineer.
