I lost my dog, Dee-O-Gee, a few weeks ago. And I'd like to thank everyone who was so friendly and helpful in my search for him, and apologize for how many people I annoyed in the process. As you probably assumed, we found him three days after he was lost. He's home safe. To the man who so kindly told us that he'd seen him, thank you immensely. You will be remembered.

...for trust fund raiser

The Alaska Children's Trust would like to thank Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises for hosting its first annual Cruise for Kids, a benefit for the Alaska Children's Trust aboard the Vision of the Seas. The trust earned nearly $15,000 from the July 20 champagne reception and luncheon aboard the Vision of the Seas. In addition, Royal Caribbean International Community Service Director Alfred Sanchez presented a $10,000 check to Carol Brice, chair of the Alaska Children's Trust board of directors on behalf of the company. Royal Caribbean also donated a seven-day cruise for two to Mexico as a prize for ACT's raffle drawing. The winner was Mari Carpeneti. She and a companion will fly to the embarkation port thanks to roundtrip airfare for two from Alaska Airlines. Thanks also to the Ursa Major Double Quartet, conducted by instructor Guo Hua Xia and accompanied by Sue Kazama on piano for the reception entertainment; Alaska Litho for printing the tickets; Bartlett Regional Hospital, Phillips Alaska, ACS Communications, MTNT Ltd., MTNT Development Inc., McGrath Light & Power, Kodiak Auto Center and State Street Corporation for sponsoring tables. A special thanks to Governor Tony Knowles, Vision of the Seas Captain Leif Otto Bang and his crew, Nancy DeCherney, Betty Martin, Kurt Parkan, Rick Cross, Ed Flanagan, Shari Paul, Glenda Carino, Beverly Ward, Fran Vlahos-Rohm, Alexis Miller, Jenny Dawson, Nanci Spear, Ron Ayers, John Fox, Cruise Line Agencies of Alaska and to all those who attended and worked to make this a very successful event.

As a result of the Juneau Garden Club plant sales, a wealth of hearty perennials have been spread throughout the city and borough of Juneau. The project was a success. We'd like to thank our own members' tenacity, digging and potting for weeks on end. But the success goes far beyond our own efforts.

We'd like to thank the community for your overwhelming support...Carr's for letting us have a corner of their parking lot to use for selling plants...our non-member plant donators: Kathy Ruddy, Karen Polley, Shelly Kincaid, Paul Dick, Seelie Hall, Bruce and Sharon Rogers, James and Corinne Griffin, Debera Cokeley, Alison Browne and Alice Jones...our own Caroline Jensen, who not only provided over a quarter of the entire inventory, but also did all of her own digging and potting...our families who graciously adapted to our hectic pre-plant sale preparedness mania...Lisa Arehart, Bob Simpson and George Elgee for their assistance with transportation, setting up and tearing down...Grace Elliott at KTOO and the folks at KINY for providing public service announcements...GCI and the Juneau Empire for their generous announcements.

We are pleased with the response of the community to this style of ``pass-along gardening'' and look forward to seeing the spread of these sweet blossoms for years upon years.

Congratulations to all who participated in the ``Challenge of the Chums Tlingit Canoe Races'' on July 22 during the Kake's Dog Salmon Days Festival. Thanks to the support of over a dozen local businesses, KTOO-FM's first annual Be A Tourist Week was a success. Over 50 Juneautians won trips and adventures in their own community by demonstrating their knowledge of Alaska's capital city.
