Police and Fire

Juneau police, fire officials and state troopers reported:


• A man 33, was arrested for assault at 10:28 p.m. Friday on Front and Franklin streets. He was lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center.


• A camera and binoculars were reported stolen from a vehicle at Sheep Creek at 10:23 a.m. Friday.

• A woman, 19, was arrested for shoplifting on South Franklin Street at 11:42 a.m. Friday. She was taken to state prison and released.

• Cash, CDs, a CD player and a camera were reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Fritz Cove Road at 1:17 p.m. Friday.

• A backpack, cell phone, camera and cash were reported stolen at 10:38 p.m. Friday at Twin Lakes.

Vandalism, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief:

• Police received a report at 9:43 a.m. Friday that a seal bomb had been exploded inside portable toilet on Glacier Spur Road. No damage was noted.

• A man, 64, was arrested for disorderly conduct at 4:47 p.m. Friday on Whittier Street.

Motor vehicle accidents:

• A Ford van driven by a man, 42, was unable to stop for a stop sign and hit a Ford Contour driven by a woman, 22, at 3:24 p.m. on Friday. The woman was taken to Bartlett Regional Hospital for minor injuries and released. Damage to the van was estimated at $2,500 and the Contour had about $7,000 in damage. The man was cited for negligent driving.

• A woman, 46, driving a Dodge backed into a Ford Crown Victoria driven by a man, 33, at 5:54 p.m. Friday on South Franklin Street. No damage was reported to either vehicle.

Animal encounters:

• Police issued a number of verbal warnings after people were reported feeding a bear in the Churchill Way area at 9:40 p.m. Friday.

• A bear was reported at South Franklin Street at 11:55 p.m. Friday. Police issued a verbal warning to a group of people asking them to leave the animal alone. A sow and two cubs were reported eating from a South Franklin Street Dumpster at 12:33 a.m. Saturday.

• A bear was reported frequenting the Martin Way area at 5:05 a.m. Saturday.

Domestic violence calls:

• A man, 28, was arrested for domestic violence assault on Thunder Mountain Road at 1:45 a.m. Saturday. He was taken to state prison.
