Sport fish officials seek input

JUNEAU - Alaska's Sport Fish Division is seeking public input on its draft strategic plan.

The plan aims to ensure sustainable recreational fish stocks and ecosystems and will guide the division during the next five years.

Copies are available at Department of Fish and Game offices and online attheir Web site www.sf.adfg.state.ak.us/statewide/stratplan/html/psphome.htm. The comment period runs through the end of this month.

Crane festival held in Fairbanks

JUNEAU - The Fifth Annual Sandhill Crane Festival celebrating fall migration in the Tanana Valley will be held from Saturday, Aug. 24, through Friday, Aug. 30, at Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge on College Road in Fairbanks.

George Archibald of the International Crane Foundation will be the keynote speaker at 7 p.m. Aug. 24 at Scaible Auditorium on the University of Alaska, Fairbanks Campus. Archibald will also speak the evening of Aug. 26 at the Noel Wein Library.

Additional events planned for the festival include breakfast with the cranes, a Tex-Mex dinner, nature walks, a photography exhibit, a fine-art print unveiling and sales with artist Randall Compton, crane watches and events for children.

The event is sponsored by Friends of Creamer's Field, Arctic Audubon Society and the Alaska Bird Observatory. There is no registration fee but donations to the festival will be welcomed.
