Senators should meet with visitors

Letter to the editor

I am completely and utterly embarrassed after hearing Sen. Murkowski's and Sen. Stevens' press conference regarding the McCain and Clinton visit to Alaska. We teach our children to embrace differences and become gracious hosts. How can our Alaska senators explain their negligence in meeting with two prominent colleagues? Of all congressmen and women, McCain and Clinton are consistently in the national news. Wouldn't this be a prime opportunity to acknowledge their bipartisan commitment, gain understanding of their cause and explore differences of opinion? Is that not what a politician is employed to do? I ask Murkowski and Stevens, as an Alaskan resident, to honor such values as respect and tolerance. Act with dignity and take time out of your "busy" schedules to meet with these prominent visitors.
