Hope is alive

Letter to the Editor

Most sincere thanks to Perseverance Theater's STAR Program and director Nancy Butten- heim for her courageous and beautiful production of Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice.

This play gives us an opportunity to contemplate the universal themes of bigotry, revenge, justice, and mercy. The youthful cast eloquently and thoughtfully presents the characters, the problems they face, and the arguments on all sides.

There are no easy answers to the troubling questions posed by this story, but hope is alive as long as our young people are willing to struggle so passionately and intelligently with difficult issues.
