John and Carol Livie celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, July 23, 2005. Their children and spouses, Debbie and Duane Bedell, Catherine and Randy Smith; Keith and Debbie Jeanne Livie, and their grandchildren hosted a reception to celebrate the occasion. John and Carol have four grandchildren: Doug and Tony Bedell and Aimee and Hailee Smith.
Carol Lawrence and John Livie were both born and raised in Juneau, and graduated from Juneau High School in 1954. They were married on July 23, 1955, at Northern Light Presbyterian Church in Juneau. After John completed his Army service in Anchorage, they moved to Salem, Ore., where John attended Willamette University. Following college, John worked for the Pepsi Cola Bottling Co., which he retired from in 1994 after 34 years of service. Carol worked for State of Oregon Aeronautics and the Department of Transportation where she retired after 27 years of service in 1995.
John's mother and father, Cecelia and Daniel Livie, were long-time Juneauites. Cecelia worked for the School District in Juneau for many years and Dan worked for Northern Commercial. Carol's parents, Carson and Lucille Lawrence were owners of the Juneau Bakery before moving to the Salem area in 1976.
John and Carol have both been very active in fraternal organizations throughout their years in Alaska and Oregon. They are past Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron of Ainsworth Eastern Star; John is a Past Master of Ainsworth Lodge No. 201 and Past Grand Master of Masons in Oregon; and Carol is Past Queen of Nydia Temple No. 4, Daughters of the Nile in Oregon.
John and Carol enjoyed a two month trip of traveling through Alaska in their fifth wheel last summer. The highlight of their trip was attending their 50th class reunion for Juneau High School. They traveled as far north as Point Barrow.
