Former Juneau resident Alice S. Blumenshine, died Aug. 3, 2008, at her home in Sedro-Woolley, Wash., surrounded by her family. She was 83.
She was born on March 10, 1925, in Worland, Wyo., to Tom and Blanche (Smith) Stork. She was raised and attended school in Riverton, Wyo.
On June 3, 1944, she married Frank Blumenshine in Riverton, Wyo., where they made their home and raised their family of 10 children. In the mid-1960s, she returned to school, attending the University of Wyoming, where she earned a master's degree in English in 1969.
In 1974, the family moved to Juneau, where she worked as a classification analyst for the state of Alaska and also for the Alaska Public Employees Association. She retired in 1991.
In 2003, Frank and Alice moved to Orcas Island in the San Juans, where they lived until moving to Sedro-Woolley in 2007.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and reading. She also was a longtime member of the Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Cheryl Hull.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Frank Blumenshine, of Sedro-Woolley; nine children, Connie Widman, of Tucson, Ariz., Dennis Blumenshine, of Laramie, Wyo., Thomas Blumenshine and his wife, Anne, of Mount Vernon, Wash., Bruce Blumenshine and his wife, Kathi, of Billings, Mont., Toni O'Brien, of Sedro-Woolley, David Blumenshine and his wife, Suzy, of Juneau, Kirk Blumenshine and his wife, Samm, of Comer, Ga., Jana Heard and her husband, Mark, of Juneau, and Mark Blumenshine and his wife, Susan, of Greeley, Colo.; and 36 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
A life celebration will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley, with her daughter, Toni O'Brien officiating.
