Teen survives bear attack in Anchorage

ANCHORAGE - Anchorage police say an 18-year-old was treated and released from a hospital after being attacked by a grizzly.

The attack happened before 2 a.m. Monday in Eagle River as Devon A. Rees was walking home.

Police say he suffered numerous bites to legs and arms.

Rees told police he punched, kicked, yelled and screamed during the struggle. Rees believes his actions may have saved him from receiving further injuries.

Alaska Fish and Game Wildlife biologist Rick Sinnott was on-scene within 20 minutes of the attack. Sinnott says a nearby stream is full of king salmon that are spawning, and bears appear to be in the area nightly.
