Longtime Juneau resident Patrick Thomas Barrett died Aug. 3, 2009, at Bartlett Regional Hospital. He was 84.
He was born Jan. 19, 1925, in Belmullett, County Mayo, Ireland. He was the oldest of 12 children born to Martin and Bridget (nee Mullarkey) Barrett.
He immigrated to England in 1944 at the age of 19, where he started his longtime career in construction. In 1952, he moved to Toronto, Canada, and in 1955, he moved on to Chicago. In 1964, he moved to Juneau, where he met his wife, Margarette (nee Scott).
He and his wife were owners of the Bergmann Hotel, Pat's Grub Steak Restaurant, the Brigadoon Subdivision and many other businesses.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margarette Barrett, in 2001; sister, Mary Kate Barrett; and brothers, James and Harry Barrett.
He was survived by his siblings, John, Paul, Martin, the Rev. Anthony Barrett, Mary Goonan, Teresa MacMillan, Sally Macallister and Eileen Taylor; and numerous neices and nephews throughout the United States, Ireland and the United Kingdom, including James, Elizabeth and Kristen Barrett, all of Juneau.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, at the Cathedral of the Nativity, 416 Fifth St.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests all donations be sent to the Shrine of St. Therese, 5933 Lund St., Juneau AK 99801-9760.
