Mine waste is harmless

Letter to the editor

Posted: Friday, August 06, 2004

In response to Eric Holle's completely misinformed letter to the editor about the mines putting off pollution, let me set it straight. Before last year Alaska was fourth from the bottom of all the states in the nation in a scale of pollution. Then this year we are on the top. Instead of complaining and using this as ammo against mining, how about you find out why this happened?

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency decided last year to add rock waste in its list of things that determine the list you speak of. This rock waste causes no more harm than the dirt you dig for your garden.
