Occupation: Student, Juneau-Douglas High School.

Favorite outdoor activities: Long-distance trail running, hiking, mountain climbing, trekking, biking, skate-skiing in the winter. "Mostly I run. I do trail runs. My real connection in Juneau is trail running and climbing mountains. I run with my dad and my mom, who are my connection to the running community. My favorite trail is Herbert Glacier trail because it's really pretty and really accessible. My mom and I did it twice the other day. I've hiked the Chilkoot Trail twice and am making plans to run it in a day with my dad."

Cool experience: "Trekking in Asia was pretty cool. The terrain and the mountains there are absolutely stunning. When you're up at 10,000 feet, it's hard to breath, so you have to stop a lot and take breaks and it forces you to look around. One day we came across this absolutely incredible valley. It looked so untouched, so beautiful. It was like a slice of heaven. We scoured over all our maps. It was totally uncharted, like no one had been up there. You feel so small."

Close call: "We did a 16-day trek in Bhutan and we had to avoid the yaks. One day in the late afternoon we had to get to our camping spot and we came across this massive male yak. He was standing right in our trail. It was these narrow mountain trails and we had to get out of the way. He was staring us down, looking right at us, swishing his tail, which is one of the signs of their getting ready to charge. He followed us and kept swishing his tail, then our guide scared him off into the bushes and he stopped following."
