Are the presidential candidates right or wrong or just short-sighted?
It's amazing how our presidential candidates focus on the current rather than the future. At a point in time when their constituents are more welcoming of radical change than ever, they worry about oil production rather than offer up long-term solutions.
Yes, offshore drilling in U.S. waters is needed to maintain some sort of independence from OPEC over the next 10 years.
Nevertheless, where are the long-term solutions? Such as acceptance of Architecture 2030's mission (www.architecture2030.com)? Or funds to support the building of new green homes? Or funds to support green remodeling? Or funds to support conversion to green renewable energy sources such as solar?
Even our governor and Legislature are spending time to reimburse Alaska citizens for a rapid rise in fuel costs when they should be considering adopting a sustainable approach with those funds by creating Alaska Housing Finance Corp. green building or remodeling loans.
Yes, that's right - rewarding people for taking a long-term approach.
It's not just about now. It's about doing the right thing for future generations, and you don't even have to be an environmentalist to come to that conclusion.
