Inmates required to pay for calls

Posted: Wednesday, August 06, 2008

JUNEAU - Alaska inmates are joining their counterparts in the rest of the nation: They will have to start paying for local phone calls.

The state's correctional facilities will begin charging $2 per call beginning Sept. 1.

Prisoners being booked won't be charged for phone calls.

The state will receive a portion of the revenue generated by the charge.
