ANCHORAGE - Alaska State Troopers say a 15-year-old driving a minivan loaded with eight friends lost control on a muddy road at Point MacKenzie on Wednesday and was killed when the vehicle rolled.

Killed was Rowdy J. Taber of Wasilla. Troopers say he and another youth were partially ejected from the van.

Lynn Carlson says her son was in the vehicle as well. She says the youths were longtime friends who attended elementary and middle school together. Accompanied by a parent, she says they had stayed the previous night at a cabin for a birthday party. She says they were just driving a short distance to get soft drinks.
