Flightseeing routes questioned

Posted: Monday, August 07, 2000

Why do flightseeing helicopters need to fly down the channel or over residential areas at all?

A good answer to the controversy might be for both companies to lift off from their bases and fly directly west to the other side of the mountain range. They can then fly south to below Taku Inlet, cross the water and come north on the other side of the mountain range on the east to beyond Point Bridget and then back over the water south to the point from which they began, in order to land at their bases.

Both Era and TEMSCO are conveniently placed so that it seems it would work very well for all concerned, with minimal impact on the community of Juneau yet giving tourists an even closer look at the wilderness than they enjoy now.
