Former Juneau-Douglas High baseball player Rob Conway hit 2-for-4 and scored a run, but his team the Nevada (Mo.) Griffons fell 7-4 to the San Francisco Seals at the National Baseball Congress World Series in Wichita, Kan., Sunday.
Conway, a 1996 JDHS grad, plays designated hitter for the Griffons, which fell into the losers' bracket of the 32-team double-elimination tourney with the loss. Conway will be a senior starting third baseman at Iowa State this fall.
The lone Alaska League team left in the tournament, the Kenai Peninsula Oilers, also dropped into the losers' bracket after falling 9-6 to the Santa Barbara Foresters Sunday. Kenai is a three-time winner of the NBC World Series.
Nevada plays Tuesday versus the winner of the Oklahoma City Sox-Edmond, Okla., game. Kenai meets Prairie Gravel of Illinois today.
